Statement of Organization and Purpose
The Guidelines and Techniques Committee was formed to develop consistent best practices for freshwater mollusks because of a lack of standard practices for surveying, handling, and vouchering species among different organizations, agencies and individuals. The goal of the committee is to review and disseminate information regarding guidelines and techniques that minimize harm to freshwater mollusks. For example, the Committee is working on developing guidelines for handling freshwater mollusks for various purposes (surveys, relocations, etc.). Other current Committee undertakings include the preparation of guidelines for surveys and surveyors and procedures for providing adequate photo vouchers. If you know of practices that should be developed or improved in order to maximize mollusk conservation, please bring them to the Committee for review. Society members that are interested in developing and refining guidelines and techniques should join this committee.
